Emergency isolation, unvented cylinder discharge resolution, precision valve replacement, and soldered copper pipe reconfiguration to prevent continuous water wastage and system overpressurisation.
The client contacted MSJ Plumbing & Drainage LTD reporting a continuous flow of hot water discharging externally through the safety tundish pipework. Upon our engineer's inspection of the high-pressure unvented cylinder, the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) was diagnosed as seized and passing water constantly, creating a loss of domestic water pressure, escalating utility costs, and compromising thermal safety margins.
Isolated the incoming cold mains supply and turned off the electrical heating elements. Safely drained the affected high-pressure cylinder section under controlled conditions to eliminate scalding risks.
Disconnected the seized valve assembly from the cylinder inlet and tundish discharge lines, clearing away mineral build-up and scale from the connection threads.
Installed a certified, pressure-calibrated replacement PRV. Re-aligned and adapted the connecting copper pipework, completing soldered capillary joints to ensure airtight, high-pressure tolerance.
Recharged the cylinder slowly, purged trapped air through all outlets, and brought the system to peak operational pressure. Confirmed zero discharge through the relief path and verified safe expansion operation.
